CENTRAL & NORTHERN EUROPE A Hidden Austrian Castle 7 days from £899 Enjoy a wine tasting Melk Abbey Passau · Award-winning castle hotel · Daily coffee and cake · Unique to Page & Moy Spend a week in luxury in an award-winning family-run castle-hotel in the Upper Austrian countryside. Stunning Baroque architecture, a horse-drawn carriage ride through lovely scenery, the delights of the Danube Valley and delectable raspberry and almond Linzertorte... these are just some of the treats in store. ITINERARY DAY 1 UK/Muhldorf Fly to Munich and meet your Tour Guide for the transfer to the Austrian village of Muhldorf. A very warm welcome awaits us at the delightful Schloss Muhldorf. DAY 2 Passau Hop over the border into Germany today to visit the mediaeval town of Passau. Set at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, Passau is a popular stopping-off point for river cruises. It's a jewel of a town with a historic centre and charming narrow winding streets dominated by the impressive Baroque cathedral. Our experienced local guide will introduce us to the cathedral's main claim to fame, the world's largest church organ, with over 17,000 pipes. An icecool glass of German Bier might just hit the spot this afternoon and there's a host of cosy inns and street cafes to choose from. Back at the hotel this evening we enjoy a candlelit dinner accompanied by piano music. DAY 3 Muhldorf Discover the delights of Upper Austria today in the company of a local guide. The morning begins with a walk from the hotel to explore the lovely surrounding countryside. Look forward to this afternoon's horse-drawn carriage ride, stopping for a warming glass of Gluhwein at the Fisherman's Hut. To round off the day in style, this evening includes a wine tasting hosted by the hotel owner. DAY 4 Linz You won't want to miss today's optional excursion to the nearby city of Linz, including a guided tour of the charming Old Town with its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets. There's much to see in the city: make time to visit the Neuer Dom, a 19th-century Gothic style cathedral, which is large enough to house 20,000 worshippers; the Hauptplatz, an imposing Baroque square; and the Mozart House. The great composer visited the city several times during his life and was inspired to write the Linz Symphony and Linz Sonata in 1783. If modern art is your thing, then you'll enjoy the Lentos Kunstmuseum. Situated on the south bank of the river, the gallery houses a worldclass collection of 20th-century paintings, photographs and sculpture, including works by Picasso, Warhol and Klimt. A must for all visitors to the city is a ride on the Postlingbergbahn, the world's steepest mountain railway. Climbing 255 metres in less than two miles, this quaint electric train has been operating since 1898. When you reach the top, enjoy the superb view of the city, the wide sweep of the Danube and the snow-capped Alps on the horizon. DAY 5 The Danube Valley & Melk Abbey You'll see wonderful scenery today as we head towards Austria's wine-growing region, the Danube Valley. The Danube is Europe's second longest river and flows through nine countries.
