Salzburg boasts one of the most beautiful cityscapes in Europe pastel-painted houses and richly decorated baroque churches line the picturesque streets and squares; pretty shop windows sit beneath traditional guild signs in the streets of the Old Town; and on the city's doorstep is the glorious snow-capped scenery of the Austrian Alps. We also treat you to evening events in historical venues that are second-to-none.
ITINERARY DAY 1 UK/Salzburg We fly to Munich and transfer to Salzburg and your choice of hotel, where dinner is included this evening. DAY 2 Salzburg Our guided walking tour explores this enchanting city encircled by forested mountains. Along the way we'll see the magnificent palaces, fountains and splendid baroque buildings of the Old Town, including number 9 Getreidegasse, the house where Mozart was born in 1756. There'll be plenty of free time to explore at your own pace this afternoon. This evening we will enjoy a classical concert in the dramatic Hohensalzburg Fortress that dominates the city. Dinner is taken in the fortress itself prior to the performance an unforgettable experience. DAY 3 Salzburg The day is free to explore the city. You may like to visit the Residenz, the former princearchbishop's palace and perhaps the most striking building in Salzburg; or take a stroll through the delightful Mirabell Gardens. For magnificent views, take the Monchsberg elevator, which carries you up through solid rock to the top of the mountain. The day ends with a superb four-course dinner in the mediaeval cellar of the truly excellent K&K restaurant, accompanied by live music. DAY 4 Salzkammergut Join our included excursion today to the breathtaking Salzkammergut, an area of towering mountain peaks, sparkling lakes and pretty villages. We will visit Mondsee and the 15th-century church that featured in The Sound of Music; as well as the lakeside village of St Wolfgang, home to a legendary operetta based at the White Horse Inn. In the evening we enjoy a Mozart concert and dinner at St Peter's Cellar in Salzburg, one of Europe's oldest restaurants, steeped in history and tradition. DAY 5 Salzburg/UK We return to the airport for the homeward flight. YOUR HOTEL 4 nights bed and breakfast including dinner on the first evening Hotel Renaissance (4-star) Situated on the right bank of the River Salzach, this lovely hotel is just a few minutes' walk from the centre.
