Experience the delights of the Veneto region, the unique floating city of Venice and the unspoilt villages of the Croatian coast... relax and enjoy welcoming towns and sandy beaches. This wonderful tour will leave you with a host of memories.
ITINERARY DAY 1 UK/Portogruaro We fly to Venice and take the short transfer to Portogruaro where we stay for five nights. As yet undiscovered by tourism, this beautiful Venetian-style town is a real Italian gem. Dinner is included in a local restaurant on our first evening, and our Tour Guide will be pleased to make suggestions for the other nights. DAYS 2 5 Portogruaro This pretty little town is an elegant mix of mediaeval and Renaissance architecture. Graceful bridges span the shimmering canals, while waterfront porticoed buildings house tempting shops. graceful piazzas and palaces of the mediaeval centre. We continue to the stately villas of the Brenta Riviera, originally built along the banks of the Brenta Canal as summer retreats for the Venetian aristocracy, then make a stop at the Villa Pisani, built for a Venetian Doge in the 18th century and later owned by Napoleon. Countryside tour (half day) Take a tour of the gentle Venetian countryside, including a tasting of some of the excellent local wines. DAY 6 Rovinj Today we leave the Veneto behind and depart for Croatia and the pretty town of Rovinj, one of the jewels of the Croatian coast. We stop in Miramare en route to visit the lovely castle gardens. The castle was built for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian. We also stop in Trieste, set between the sparkling waters of the Adriatic and a limestone plateau before crossing the border into Slovenia and continuing on to Croatia and our hotel in Rovinj for a five-night stay. DAYS 7 10 Rovinj & the Istrian Coast One of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic's Istrian coast, Rovinj was ruled by the Venetians for 500 years and has been a popular resort since the days of the AustroHungarian Empire. Today, its charming old town is a warren of narrow streets, squares and welcoming cafes overlooking the colourful fishing harbour. Dominating the town is the Cathedral of St Euphemia, a massive baroque building perched on a hill top. Enjoy the resort's facilities or choose from the following optional excursions:

One excursion is included during your stay: Venice Enjoy an included excursion to Venice, a wonderfully romantic city of pastel palaces, historic churches and quiet corners. A number of optional excursions are available: Aquileia & Grado (¾ day) Once one of the most important cities in Roman Italy, Aquileia's wealth is evident in its archaeological remains. We visit the basilica, only recently rediscovered, with beautiful mosaics carpeting the length of its nave. Our excursion continues to pretty Grado, set on a number of small islands. Much of its charm comes from the warm waters that lap against its sandy beaches you may like to relax with a drink and watch the world go by. Padua & the Brenta Riviera (full day) We visit Padua to see the beautiful Basilica of St Anthony and the
