Almost untranslatable, it infers cosy, comfortable and agreeable& the sensations well enjoy staying in welcoming family-run hotels, while we experience the scenic contrasts of snow-dusted mountains, lush rolling pastures and the cool scented air of pine forests.
ItInerary Day 1 UK/Pill We fly to Munich and transfer to our hotel in the alpine village of Pill, and enjoy a welcome drink on arrival. Day 2 Pill This morning we enjoy a guided walk with a local expert to explore the delightful scenery around our Tyrolean resort. Later we take a guided tour of the hotels 300-year-old schnapps distillery, when our host will explain how the liqueur is made and invite us to taste the finished product. Day 3 Ziller Valley Steam railway Today we take an included excursion to the scenic Ziller Valley, where we board the steam-hauled Ziller Valley Railway for a nostalgic journey through the magnificent mountain scenery to Mayrhofen. There will be time to explore this typical alpine resort before we return to our hotel. Day 4 Innsbruck & ambras Castle Spend the day at leisure, or join our optional excursion to Innsbruck, the picturesque capital of the Tyrol, returning via Ambras Castle, a mediaeval fortress turned into a palace in the 16th century and home to an impressive collection of armour. Day 5 Kitzbuhel & Krimml Waterfall Why not join todays optional excursion to Kitzbuhel, once a walled mediaeval settlement and now one of the prettiest of Europes mountain resorts. We continue to Hohe Tauern National Park to see the incredible Krimml Waterfall, which cascades some 1,300 feet down the mountains. Day 6 St anton & au We leave Pill this morning and transfer to Au, in the heart of the scenic Bregenzerland, visiting St Anton en route. This classic resort, the birthplace of downhill alpine skiing, has a glamorous and sophisticated style of its own. Weather permitting, we drive over the spectacular Arlberg Mountain Pass. Day 7 the Bregenzerwald Todays included excursion takes us to a local family-run schnapps distillery for a tour and tasting. We will also enjoy a short journey through the forest by nostalgic steam train before riding the cable car high into the mountains. Day 8 Lindau & Lake Constance Today we offer an optional tour to the Bavarian town of Lindau on Lake Constance. One of the best-preserved mediaeval towns in Germany, it has picturesque merchants houses and tempting cafes on the lakeside promenade. Day 9 Silvretta alpine road Dont miss todays optional excursion which shows us more of the region as we drive along the Silvretta alpine road. A monumental feat of construction, this road climbs through 30 hairpin bends and reaches an altitude of 6,680 feet at the base of Piz Buin, the highest peak in the region. Day 10 au/UK We transfer to Zurich airport for our homeward flight. yOUr HOteLS PILL Hotel Plankenhof (4-star), 5 nights half board. The cosy, comfortable bedrooms in this family-run hotel are complemented by lobby and cellar bars, a restaurant and an ancient schnapps distillery in the basement. Relax on the sun terrace and enjoy the open-air pool (open mid-June to mid-August, weather permitting) set in extensive gardens with spectacular mountain views. All guest rooms are non-smoking. aU Hotel rossle (4-star), 4 nights half board. This friendly family-run hotel is situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Au. Facilities include a lift, bar, restaurant, lounge, sauna and sun terrace. Each of the 62 rooms is comfortably furnished to a high standard.
