ITINErAry DAy 1 UK/Lausanne We board the Eurostar service from London St Pancras to Paris this morning. Standard class travel is included, but upgrades to First Class are available. From Paris, a high-speed TGV takes us to Lausanne, where we stay overnight. DAy 2 Florence From Lausanne we take the Cisalpino tilting train into Italy, travelling along the shores of Lake Geneva, through the Rhone Valley and under the Alps to Milan. We continue on the high-speed Eurostar Italia service to Florence, where we stay for the next four nights. Two evening meals are included in local restaurants, leaving you free to choose your venue for the other two evenings. DAy 3 Florence To help you get your bearings in this truly remarkable city we have included a guided walking tour this morning. Highlights include the magnificent cathedral, and the impressive Piazza della Signoria. The afternoon is free to make your own discoveries. DAy 4 Siena & San Gimignano Our full-day excursion takes us to the hilltop city of Siena where we see the striking Renaissance cathedral and the fan-shaped Piazza del Campo. We then continue to San Gimignano, instantly recognisable with its 13 stone towers. DAy 5 Lucca by Train Today we take the local train (only standard class seats available) to the pretty town of Lucca, where mediaeval lanes and piazzas are enclosed by impressive stone ramparts. DAy 6 Florence to rome Its all aboard the Eurostar Italia this morning as we leave Florence for Rome, a journey of over 200 miles in just over 90 minutes. On arrival we transfer to our hotel for a three-night stay. After lunch at the hotel, a coach tour introduces us to some of the citys impressive sights, including the Colosseum and Circus Maximus. DAy 7 Treasures of rome This morning we visit the Vatican City. This afternoon a local guide takes us on a walking tour of Rome, visiting some of the best-known monuments including the Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. DAy 8 Tivoli We head out of the city today to Tivoli and the towns most famous attraction, the Gardens of the Villa dEste, home to numerous fountains. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner in a city restaurant. DAy 9 Lausanne We depart Rome on the Eurostar Italia to Milan, changing to the EuroCity International for the second leg of our journey to Brig and then on to Lausanne for an overnight stay. DAy 10 Lausanne/UK We join the comfortable TGV to Paris then on to London by Eurostar, arriving late afternoon. The comfortable rooms all have TV, phone, minibar and hairdrier. FLOrENCE Hotel Palazzo Ognissanti (4-star), 4 nights (2 nights half board, 2 nights bed and breakfast). This completely refurbished, stylish hotel in a former 19th-century palazzo has an excellent position in the centre of town. All guest rooms offer satellite TV and minibar. Dinner at local restaurants is included on two evenings. rOME Hotel Nova Domus (4-star), 3 nights (2 nights half board, 1 night bed and breakfast). A friendly hotel just a short walk from the Vatican City, the Nova Domus offers an attractive mezzanine bar, small terrace and restaurant. The comfortable guest rooms all have TV, phone, safe and air-conditioning.
