THE OPERAS Nabucco Verdis stirring tale of King Nabuccos tyranny against the Hebrews and his subsequent betrayal by a power-hungry daughter. Aida Verdis spectacular and dramatic tale of Aida and Radames tragic love is a Verona classic. Tosca Tosca tells of a beautiful opera singer who finds herself torn between the painter she loves and the loathsome chief of police who holds her lovers fate in his hands. Filled with appalling treachery, murder and unbreakable love, the opera captures the events of a mere 17 hours amid the political turmoil of 19thcentury Rome. Carmen revolves around a soldier, Don Jose, driven crazy with jealousy by a gypsy woman, Carmen. Rigoletto The plot centres around the court jester, Rigoletto, his daughter Gilda, and the womanizing Duke of Mantua who has set his sights on Rigolettos lovely daughter.
