Witness nature at her most spectacular as the autumn leaves turn a thousand shades of gold, fiery red and orange, take the ferry to chic Marthas Vineyard and follow Bostons historic Freedom Trail.
ItInerary Day 1 UK/Plymouth Fly to Boston and transfer to Plymouth, where we stay for three nights. Day 2 Plymouth & Whale-Watching Plymouth is the spot where the pilgrims came ashore from the Mayflower in 1620. Our introduction to the town includes a visit to the full-scale replica of the ship and Plymouth Rock. An optional whale-watching cruise is available this afternoon (weather permitting). Day 3 Marthas Vineyard We make the short ferry crossing to Vineyard Haven and drive past sandy beaches to Oak Bluffs. Take a stroll around the streets of Gothic-style wooden houses before visiting elegant Edgartown. Day 4 Boston & Lincoln Today we visit the village of Lincoln in the White Mountains. We break our journey in Boston, where the Declaration of Independence was read in 1776 a city which comes vividly to life on a walking tour following the Freedom Trail. Your base for the next three nights is Woodwards Inn. Day 5 new Hampshire & Vermont Today we drive to Vermont to visit Montpelier, seeing the charming State House with its gold-leafed dome, before calling at Morse Farm Sugarshack to see how maple syrup is produced and enjoy a tasting of sugar on snow. Day 6 the White Mountains Discover the spectacular landscapes of the Franconia and Presidentials ranges, which make up the White Mountains. At Bretton Woods you can see the historic Mount Washington Hotel before continuing to Crawford Notch, a narrow pass offering stunning views of Mount Washington. We return to Lincoln on the Kancamagus Highway, a scenic mountain road that traces an old Indian trail. Day 7 the Green Mountains & the Berkshires We drive through the glorious Green Mountains of Vermont, where covered bridges, farmsteads and pretty villages epitomise New England. Continue to the Berkshires before arriving in Williamstown, our base for the next two nights. Afternoon free for you to explore the campus of Williams College. Day 8 the Berkshires These beautiful foothills were made popular by Americas rich and famous, who built extravagant Victorian mansions. Discover more on an optional tour, taking in Hancock Shaker Village and Stockbridge, former home of the artist Norman Rockwell. DayS 9 & 10 Boston/UK We travel to Boston Airport for the overnight flight to the UK, enjoying some free time in the city of Boston itself.
