Visit the historic city of Oporto before setting sail on your river cruiser for a scenic voyage along the River Douro, through the heart of Portugal.
ITINERARy DAy 1 UK/Oporto We fly to Oporto and transfer to our river cruiser, the MS Infante D Henrique. Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner on board this evening, and an optional panoramic tour of Oporto by night. DAy 2 Oporto Perhaps join an optional excursion to Braga, known locally as Portuguese Rome. Take time to visit the church of Bom Jesus do Monte. Dinner is on board followed by a traditional folklore show. DAy 3 Oporto & Regua Enjoy an optional tour of Oporto, the home of port wine. After a walk through the steep, winding streets of the old town, we make our way to Vila Nova de Gaia, where you will visit one of the producers of the world famous port, followed by a wine tasting. This afternoon we begin cruising through the spectacular scenery of the Douro Valley, through the highest locks in Europe, to the town of Regua. Live music and dancing on board after dinner. DAy 4 Barca dAlva We take an optional tour to the town of Vila Real, famed for its Gothic cathedral, 16arch Roman bridge, beautiful gardens and magnificent country house of Solar de Mateus and the famous Mateus Rose wine. Enjoy a walk through the gardens before rejoining the ship in Pinhao. This afternoon your ship continues to Barca dAlva on the Portuguese/ Spanish border. Dinner and a show with Flamenco dancers this evening. DAy 5 Vega de Teron Join our optional excursion to the city of Salamanca, with its historic university buildings, beautiful squares, two magnificent cathedrals, stone noblemens houses, convents and ornate palaces. Enjoy dinner and entertainment on board as we sail towards Vega de Teron. DAy 6 Ferradosa & Pinhao We pass back through the Valeira and Pocinho locks en route to Ferradosa. From here enjoy an optional port wine excursion and a tasting in a local quinta. Return to your river cruiser in time for dinner and a gala evening before docking for the night in Pinhao. DAy 7 Oporto On an optional excursion to Lamego, our guide will take us around the wealth of ornate baroque buildings, including the celebrated shrine of Nossa Senhora dos Remedios, the medieval castle, the church of Almacave and the cathedral. We cruise back to Oporto and enjoy farewell celebrations this evening. DAy 8 Oporto/UK Disembark after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
