ItInerary Day 1 UK/athens We fly to Athens and transfer to our hotel for an overnight stay. Day 2 Corinth, Mycenae & tolon We journey to Corinth where we see the elaborate Fountain of Peirene; the Temple of Apollo, the oldest Doric temple on the mainland; and an extensive collection of artefacts at the museum. We continue to Mycenae to explore Agamemnons citadel and the Treasury of Atreus, before travelling on to Tolon for an overnight stay. Day 3 epidaurus & Bassae Our day begins in Epidaurus, where we visit the sanctuary, the museum and the magnificent theatre, before travelling to the well-preserved Temple of Apollo at Bassae and on to Olympia for an overnight stay. Day 4 Olympia & Itea Olympia is home to the Doric Temple of Zeus, where the Olympic flame was kept burning between games; and nearby the Temple of Hera. We visit the Archaeological Museum and the New Museum for the Olympic Games. We journey to Patras and board the ferry for the voyage to Antirion, making a brief stop in Nafpaktos before continuing our journey to Itea for an overnight stay. Day 5 Delphi & Osio Loukas Monastery We see the Temple of Apollo and the well-preserved Stadium before visiting the Kastelian Spring, where pilgrims had to wash to purify themselves before seeking the wisdom of the Oracle.This afternoon we visit the museum and the Sanctuary of Athene Pronaia. We travel on to the remote Byzantine monastery of Osio Loukas before reaching Athens for a three-night stay. Day 6 athens We spend time visiting the Acropolis Museum, full of the treasures found on the site; the Temple of Athena Nike; the Parthenon; and the Agora, Athens ancient market place. The afternoon is free for you to explore. Day 7 athens archaeological Museum, Vravrona & Cape Sounion This morning we visit the superb National Archaeological Museum. We continue to Vravrona and the Sanctuary of Artemis before visiting the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. Day 8 athens/UK Todays optional excursion is to the Benaki Museum, a private collection of sculptures, paintings and artefacts. From here we transfer to Athens airport for the return flight. yOUr HOteLS atHenS athens Gate Hotel (4-star), 4 nights bed and breakfast.
