With both cultural and archaeological excursions, this tour offers something for everyone. a hospital and a hotel; the museum, demonstrating the medical skills of the time; and the magnificent theatre. We then continue through the lovely countryside of Arcadia to the Temple of Apollo at Bassae. The most remote ancient Greek site, it is also one of the best preserved. After our days sightseeing we continue to the Hotel Europa for an overnight stay. DAY 4 Olympia & Itea Today is devoted to Olympia. Amongst the wild olives and plane trees lie the ruins of important temples and we visit the Doric Temple of Zeus, where the Olympic flame was kept burning between games. Nearby is the Temple of Hera, perhaps the most complete building on the site, with 30 surviving columns. We also see the Stadium, where we can still make out the 200-metre-long track and the athletes starting and finishing lines. During the afternoon we visit the Archaeological Museum and the New Museum for the Olympic Games before beginning our journey across the plain to Patras, where we board the ferry for the voyage across the Gulf of Korinthos to Antirion. We make a brief stop in Nafpaktos, set beneath a Venetian castle, before continuing our journey to Itea. Tonight we stay at the Hotel Nafsika Palace.
