Mainz Rhine Experience the spectacular Rhine with its amazing gorge, the ancient fortress of the Main and the romantic past of the Moselle. Sail through sweeping vineyards and fascinating cities before enjoying a glass or two of complimentary wine with your evening meal. ITINERARY DAY 1 UK - Cologne By air: Fly from a choice of airports to Dusseldorf and transfer to Serenade I, moored in Cologne. By rail: Depart London St Pancras by Eurostar for the journey to Brussels. On arrival transfer by coach to Cologne. DAY 2 Koblenz We leave Cologne in the early hours, sailing towards the historic city of Koblenz for a lunchtime arrival. There is an optional afternoon walking tour of the city with views of the ancient Roman walls and beautifully restored Old Quarter. DAY 3 Rudesheim In the morning we depart from Koblenz, cruising towards the pretty wine town of Rudesheim. Here you can sample excellent Rhine wines at one of the many traditional taverns. There is an optional trip to the charming Siegfrieds Mechanical Music Museum, where you can step back to the early days of recorded sound. DAY 4 Frankfurt We leave Rudesheim early and arrive in Frankfurt by the afternoon. An optional trip is available to the beautiful city of Heidelberg seeing the fabulous Old Town, the evocative castle ruins and delightful squares. DAY 5 Mainz This morning we leave Frankfurt heading on to Mainz for lunchtime. This old university town was home to John Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. There is an optional city tour in the afternoon, which includes the Gutenberg Museum, containing the treasured Gutenberg Bible. DAY 6 Boppard We leave Mainz behind and travel gently towards Boppard, found nestling on the banks of one of the Rhines largest loops. There is free time to explore the towns old fort, hot spring waters and the 12th-century twin-towered church of St Severus.
