Piazza Navona DAY 7 Treasures of Rome This morning we visit the Vatican City, a tiny city state with a wealth of treasures, from the splendour of St Peters Basilica to Michelangelos unforgettable Sistine Chapel. This afternoon a local guide takes us on a walking tour of Rome, visiting some of the best-known monuments including the Piazza Navona, home to Berninis exuberant Fountain of the Four Rivers; the famous Trevi Fountain, unexpectedly hidden amongst the maze of narrow streets; and the ancient Roman Pantheon, the most extraordinary and best-preserved ancient building in Rome. DAY 8 Tivoli We head out of the city today to Tivoli and the towns most famous attraction, the Gardens of the Villa dEste. These magnificent landscaped gardens are home to numerous fountains, including the magnificent Organ Fountain, which has been restored to its original glory. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner in a city restaurant. DAY 9 Lausanne We depart Rome on the Eurostar Italia to Milan, changing to the EuroCity International for the second leg of our journey to Brig and then on to Lausanne for an overnight stay. DAY 10 Lausanne/UK We join the comfortable TGV to Paris then on to London by Eurostar, arriving late afternoon. YOUR HOTELS LAUSANNE Hotel Continental (4-star), 2 nights half board. Centrally situated opposite the railway station, the hotel has a lounge, bar and restaurant. The comfortable rooms all have TV, phone, minibar and hairdrier. FLORENCE Hotel Palazzo Ognissanti (4-star), 2 nights half board, 2 nights bed and breakfast. This stylishly decorated hotel in a former 19th-century palazzo has been completely refurbished and is in an excellent position in the centre of town. All guest rooms offer satellite TV and minibar. Dinner at local restaurants is included on two evenings. ROME Hotel Nova Domus (4-star), 2 nights half board, 1 night bed and breakfast. A friendly hotel just a short walk from the Vatican City, the Nova Domus offers an attractive mezzanine bar, small terrace and restaurant.
