Transfers
Approach to the Ducal Palace, Urbino Transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately 2 hours
hilltown. Take a walk along the battlements for unparalleled views of the surrounding countryside before we head for the coast. Le Marche borders the Adriatic from Pesaro in the north to Ascoli in the south and this afternoon we discover some of the delightful coastline resorts. Take a stroll along the waterfront, indulge yourself with delicious Italian ice cream and even take a dip in the sea. DAY 6 San Sepulcro We leave Urbino and head for Tuscany, travelling through beautiful countryside. We arrive in the mediaeval town of San Sepulcro for the next two nights, famous for its lace and pasta and as the birthplace of the great Renaissance artist, Piero della Francesca. The afternoon is free for you to explore this beautiful Tuscan gem and perhaps visit the museum containing some of the artists beautiful works. DAY 7 Arezzo & Monterchi This morning we visit Monterchi, surrounded by orchards and vineyards. Here we see the the famous fresco, the Madonna del Parto, believed to be a homage to the artists mother. One of Tuscanys wealthiest towns, Arezzo was built on the riches of its jewellery industry. It is particularly known for the Church of San Francesco, its relatively simple brick facade concealing a magnificent interior frescoed by Piero della Francesca. The Legend of the True Cross depicts the history of the cross used to crucify Christ in intricate detail, and is one of the greatest fresco cycles in Italy. Enjoy a walking tour of the town with a local guide followed by free time to explore independently. DAY 8 Arezzo/UK We return to Bologna airport for the homeward flight.

This friendly modern hotel offers well-appointed air-conditioned guest rooms with superb views over the surrounding countryside, a large terrace, good restaurant and bar. The small yet stylish lounge affords beautiful views from its panoramic window. Other facilities include a sports and beauty centre with indoor and outdoor pool, which is open to the public. The hotel provides a shuttle service to the centre of Urbino, about a mile away. Local bus transport is available to the centre of the town. SAN SEPULCRO Borgo Palace Hotel (4-star), 2 nights bed and breakfast. This excellent modern hotel offers very comfortable well-appointed rooms, all with airconditioning, TV, minibar, phone and safe. The hotel is situated a short walk from the historic centre of the town. You may like to take advantage of the hotels excellent restaurant, Il Borghetto, which is renowned throughout the region for its extensive wine list and regional and national cuisine. The bread, pasta and desserts are all fatti in casa - homemade!

On two departure dates you will be in Italy during a local festival. On the 1 September departure you will get to experience the mediaeval jousting festival in Arezzo, and the 8 September departure coincides with the mediaeval archery festival in San Sepulcro.
