ITINERARY DAY 1 UK/Reggello Fly to Bologna and meet your Tour Guide for the transfer into the heart of Tuscany to Reggello, your base for the next five nights. One evening during your stay we enjoy a tasting of some of the delicious local wines in the hotel. DAYS 2 5 Reggello Tuscany is home to some of the best food and wine in Italy. Excellent olive oil, tangy pecorino cheese, honey, cured meats, wonderful fresh mushrooms and chestnuts are all specialities of the region, not forgetting Chianti and Montepulciano to name just two of the excellent wines. Make the most of your time to sample some of these delicacies your Tour Guide will be able to point you in the right direction for good local shops and restaurants for lunch. Of course, theres more to Tuscany than the food and wine, so make time for a little sightseeing too! Two excursions are included: Florence (full day) This magnificent city is a veritable treasure-house of art and architecture. See the cathedral, its huge terracotta dome and elegant campanile piercing the sky, the famous Ponte Vecchio, spanning the River Arno; and some of the best galleries in the world including the Uffizi and Accademia. Chianti (half day) The rolling verdant hills of Chianti are spectacular and today is made all the more special with a tour and a tasting at one of the respected vineyards. Optional excursions: Siena (full day) The twisting streets, mediaeval archways and tall crenellated towers make Siena a delight to discover. Imagine the excitement of the riotous Palio horse race as you stroll through the Piazza del Campo, the setting for this spectacular biannual event. Pisa (¾ day) The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most enduring images of Italy and it wont fail to impress. It enjoys a beautiful setting in the Field of Miracles close to the majestic cathedral and baptistery, decorated with exquisite Carrara marble. DAY 6 Reggello/UK Return to Bologna airport for the homeward flight. YOUR HOTEL Hotel Italia (3-star), 5 nights half board. This is a lovely family-run hotel where we are made to feel very welcome. The sun terrace and courtyard offer beautiful views of the surrounding hills and other facilities include comfortable guest rooms, a pleasant restaurant, lounge and new conservatory; a lovely area in which to relax after days of sightseeing. Dinner is included throughout our stay and on two evenings we will be treated to special Tuscan meals in local restaurants. Please note: September departures will stay at the Hotel Franceschi. Hotel Franceschi (3-star) The little mediaeval village of Gavinana stands on the wooded slopes of Mount Crocicchio, surrounded by chestnut, beech and fir trees. Our lovely hotel, run by the hospitable Franceschi family, offers comfortable guest rooms, a pretty conservatory, bar, lounge and an attractive restaurant serving traditional Tuscan dishes.
