The rest of the day is free for you to unwind at your comfortable hotel, which has plenty of facilities, or why not take the chance to explore a little of Nairobi or the surrounding area on an optional excursion to the Keren Blixen Museum before dinner this evening? DAY 3 Samburu National Reserve After breakfast you will drive north to the Samburu National Reserve for a two-night stay. This afternoon we take our first game drive. The reserve's vegetation is a blend of grassland and forest, with the River Ewaso Ng'iro flowing through it, which attracts a wide variety of animals, including elephants, zebra, giraffes, gazelle and hundreds of bird species. The grasslands are also home to the big cats lions and cheetahs and the tiny dikdik a diminutive antelope, which stands no more than a couple of feet high at most. DAY 4 Samburu National Reserve You will have another full day to explore Samburu, with included game drives both in the morning and the afternoon, allowing you to discover even more of the park's magnificent wildlife. DAY 5 Mount Kenya In the heart of Kenya stands the majestic mountain for which the country was named a towering, snow-capped peak of some 17,000 feet. This morning we drive to the Mountain Lodge, situated on the slopes of Mount Kenya, which offers a chance to see some superb wildlife. Mount Kenya's impressive height means that it crosses a number of climatic zones there are even glaciers on the higher slopes. This variety of habitats makes the mountain the ideal home for a huge amount of different species, including monkeys. Our lodge is located on Mount Kenya's slopes, overlooking a waterhole, which attracts a good selection of wildlife. This afternoon, relax on the lodge's observation platforms and watch the animals as they go about their business at the waterhole. Among the species you might spot are buffalo and elephants. We stay overnight at the lodge. DAY 6 Lake Nakuru & Lake Naivasha Today we continue our safari, travelling to the Great Rift Valley and Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its black rhino population and variety of birds. This lake is a magnet for dedicated ornithologists from all over the world. Pelicans and cormorants are frequent visitors, but perhaps the most attractive species to be seen is the lesser flamingo. Thousands of these graceful birds can often be spotted wading in the shallows, their distinctive pink plumage making for a fine spectacle as they feed upon the abundant algae of the lake. After lunch we drive around the shores of the lake before continuing to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge for an overnight stay.
