High Arctic Explorer 11-night voyage This is an exploratory voyage into the bays and islands of the Canadian Eastern High Arctic and Northwest Greenland. Throughout the voyage we will be taking the ship into new areas and discovering new ground with plentiful wildlife for company!
Well begin by heading southeast towards Port Leopold, the wintering spot of James Clark Ross on his 1848 journey in search of the missing Franklin expedition. Our eastwards journey follows the shoreline of Devon Island and will be punctuated by stops in small bays to look for walrus, musk ox and polar bears. We can walk among the spectacular flora of the High Arctic tundra and perhaps stop at the remote Dundas Harbour, once a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Outpost and a site of incredible beauty. In Jones Sound well stop at Cobourg Island National Wildlife Area to see the magnificent seabird cliffs. Well attempt a visit into Grise Fjord on Ellesmere Island, Canadas northernmost community, to learn about Inuit survival in the unforgiving Arctic environment. Sailing east across the top of Baffin Bay close to Greenland, we hope to visit one of the northernmost municipalities in the world at Qaanaaq a gateway to Greenland for explorers and northern traders for thousands of years. Here well learn about the traditional way of hunting for polar bear, walrus, whale and seal from the communitys Inuit hunters. Well round Kap York, with its incredible nesting sites of little auks, en route towards Baffin Bay. Re-crossing Baffin Bay, well look for the ice sheet in the middle of the bay, where we may see polar bears, seals, and walrus. From Pond Inlet on Baffin Island, we work our way westwards, stopping at historic Beechey Island.

We continue on through Wellington Channel, looking for wildlife, until we meet the barrier of the winter pack ice at around 79 degrees. Well wind up our voyage at Resolute to board our charter flight to Ottawa.
