WHAT'S IN A SHIP? Our ships, the Peregrine Voyager and Peregrine Mariner, are renowned as being among the best expedition-style ships for exploring the polar regions: * superior speed and stability mean we can cruise at up to 14.5 knots, even in rough seas. this means more time in the polar regions, less time getting there! * Greater manoeuvrability allows us to explore beautiful small bays and inlets that larger ships can't access. * our ships' advanced stabilising mechanism reduces sideways roll by up to 60 per cent, so you're less likely to be affected by motion sickness. * We carry no more than 110 passengers and enough Zodiac inflatable boats to get everyone on the water, quickly, safely and at the one time there are no shuttle runs or wasted opportunities for exploring. All cabins have an outside view, with portholes or a window, and are tastefully furnished. Most of them have private or semi-private facilities. While not luxurious our ships are working scientific vessels they are comfortable, clean and practical. We encourage you to join our staff on the bridge you'll be welcome there virtually all day. There's always something to learn from the captain or the officers on watch and it's the favourite place on the ship for sightseeing and bird watching. Both ships also have ample outside viewing areas, as well as spectacular views from the bridge, cabins and public areas. Each has a television lounge and bar with comfortable lounges and bar stools with outside views, supplemented by television relay from the bridge. There is also a sauna, plunge pool, gymnasium and library, as well as more intimate rooms for accommodating smaller groups. The dining room, located on the Main Deck, seats all passengers comfortably in one sitting there are numerous windows and a comfortable lounge area. While each ship is designed to take over 120 passengers, we normally carry no more than 110. FREQUENT SHORE EXCURSIONS We aim to spend as much time off the ship as possible. With our fleet of sturdy, inflatable Zodiac boats, we are able to disembark all passengers at once, swiftly, easily and safely. We normally break into small groups which share similar interests you choose which group you'd like to go with at each outing. While we carry up to 110 passengers, some passengers are joining parallel programs, or pursuing specialised interests such as sea kayaking or photography (see page 32). This means we can comfortably stay within the industry guidelines of 100 or fewer people ashore at a time, never requiring the inconvenience of shuttles. POLAR SPECIALISTS Between them, our leaders have made hundreds of polar voyages and bring on board a diversity of interests including zoology, polar history, geology, ornithology and ocean sciences. Their knowledge and expertise shine through our informal education program, with presentations and discussions on all aspects of the polar experience. Presentations take place in a comfortable, purpose-built theatre on Deck 1 the most stable and quiet area of the ship. Sophisticated projection facilities assist our educational experts, and there is a television monitor that relays the view from the bridge. Our experts also guide the frequent shore excursions. HOSPITALITy STAFF World-class chefs provide a choice of international menus including seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes, accompanied by an excellent variety of beverages and wines. Peregrine also brings along its own resident medical officer on every voyage. FRIENdLy CREW The ships' operating crews are Russian and getting to know them is a highlight of our voyages. They have many years of experience in both the Arctic and Antarctica, and are committed to ensuring a safe and memorable journey. The captain and crew maintain the ships to the highest standards and keep them immaculately clean. Each day your cabin is serviced by our housekeeping crew and your meals are served by the friendly and attentive dining room staff. SPECIALISEd EXPEdITIONS We cater for a variety of specialised interests, including sea kayaking and photography. Our ships are ideally suited to conferences and other groups, ranging from 10 to 100 participants.
