From Lima we fly to Cusco, the former seat of power of the great Inca Empire. We explore the historic city centre and wander the Sacsayhuaman temple site before entering the beautiful Sacred Valley to discover the market town of Pisac and the imposing Ollantaytambo Fortress. At the far end of the valley is magnificent Machu Picchu, forgotten by the outside world for centuries until it was rediscovered in 1911. After enjoying a cruise on Lake Titicaca we cross into Bolivia and visit the capital of La Paz before reaching the vast, shimmering plains of the Salar de Uyuni the largest salt flat in the world. From the silver rich town of Potosi it is a short drive to Sucre where we discover the charm of this colonial city with its whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, great houses, and numerous convents and churches.

ITINERARY AND HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1-2 Day 3 Day 4 (Mon) Arrive in Lima and transfer to hotel. City tour. Fly to Cusco. Afternoon walking tour. Full-day tour of the Sacred Valley, visiting the ruins of Qenko, Puka Pukara and Tambo Machay, Ollantaytambo and the markets at Pisac. Free time. Half-day visit to Pumamarca Ruins and Perus Challenge. Train to Aguas Calientes. Visit Machu Picchu. Optional swim in the hot springs or revisit Machu Picchu. Late afternoon train to Cusco. Drive to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Full-day Lake Titicaca excursion including Uros and Tequile Islands. Cross into Bolivia and head to La Paz via the ruins of Tiahuanaco. La Paz city sightseeing. Bus and train to Uyuni. Full-day 4WD excursion to the Uyuni Salt Plains. Continue by road to Potosi. Explore colonial centre with time for optional activities. Short drive to Sucre. City sightseeing including San Lorenzo Church, Cobija Arch, the Jesuit Tower and Colonial Mint Museum. Morning flight to La Paz where trip ends on arrival (Thu).
