Welcome to the Middle East KAI ROUAN, TU N ISIA EGYPT JORDAN LEBANON ISRAEL SYRIA OMAN LIBYA TUNISIA MOROCCO Pic to x70mm DESTINATION MANAGER PROFILE STEVE WROE Born in South Africa, raised in outback Western Australia and tertiary educated, for a time, in the USA it is no wonder Steve is a travel guru. Peregrine recruited Steve before he finished university and, two days after his final exam, he was on a plane to Bangkok. Steve has recently returned from a 6-week stint travelling around Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Morocco and is currently raving about Damascus in Syria and Wadi Rum in Jordan. Steve loves the diverse cultural and historical influences that the Middle East has to offer and, this year, he has included some fantastic new itineraries in some truly remote areas. The crossroads of civilisation and the birthplace of modern history Lawrence of Arabia once described Wadi Rum in Jordan as vast, echoing and God-like. Indeed the natural beauty of the Middle East surprises many travellers. Join us on adventures through the desert in Egypt or Libya and youll be astounded at the allure and diversity that these landscapes offer. Moroccos Atlas Mountains rival the most spectacular ranges found in other parts of the world, while the oasis towns and peaceful seaside villages of Tunisia make it the perfect place to explore. The great sites of antiquity draw the attention of most travellers, as they have done for centuries. Over the last 5000 years various empires have risen and fallen, leaving their mark in the form of astonishing temples and incredible cities. The sheer magnificence of these edifices and metropolises defies imagination. Standing amongst the ruins of Jerash, Palmyra, Karnak Temple, Leptis Magna and Baalbek, imagining what they must have been like in their heyday, is very exciting. Places like Petra, Krak des Chevaliers and the Pyramids of Giza are equally amazing, but require less imagination they are remarkably well preserved. So, why travel to the Middle East with Peregrine? First and foremost are our leaders and guides. World class, award-winning and simply brilliant, they make the difference between a good holiday and great one. We only use leaders born and raised in the region. Hand-picked and highly trained, our leaders are the best in the business. Our itineraries are innovative and interactive - a mix of experiencing the must sees and spending time off the beaten track. We have been in business for 30 years and know what we are doing. Join us in the Middle East this year. Its a fascinating, enigmatic, exciting travel destination. After countless visits, I am only just beginning to uncover its many hidden mysteries! Steve Wroe Destination Manager Middle East & North Africa 78 // PEREGRINE
