The Western Desert is a wonderful contrast to the Nile Valley. It is our first stop on this exciting trip, as we head south from Cairo in 4WD vehicles. We spend three days exploring the magnificent White and Black Deserts, Bahariya, Wadi Rayan and Whale Valley. We enjoy sunset and sunrise walks and spend two fabulous nights camping under the stars before returning to Cairo. Here we visit the pyramids, Sphinx and the superb Egyptian Museum before travelling to Luxor to visit all of the major sights. A relaxing Nile cruise takes us to Aswan, where we enjoy ample free time to explore or visit Abu Simbel. Back in Cairo we finish off with a visit to the medieval city, including the vibrant Khan el Khalili bazaar one of the oldest markets in the world.
ITINERARY AND HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1 (Mon) Arrive in Cairo and transfer to hotel. Day 2-5 Four-day 4WD safari to the White Desert (overnight camp), Black Desert, Bahariya, Whale Valley and Wadi Rayan (overnight camp). Return to Cairo. Day 6 Visit Egyptian Museum, pyramids and Sphinx. Sleeper train to Luxor. Day 7-8 Visit Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings and Temple of Hatshepsut. Board Nile cruise boat. Day 9-10 Sail to Aswan. Visit Edfu and Komombo Temples. Day 11 Free day in Aswan. Optional visit to Abu Simbel. Sleeper train to Cairo. Day 12 Arrive Cairo. Visit medieval city, including GayerAnderson Museum, Ibn Tulun Mosque and the Khan el Khalili bazaar. Day 13 Trip ends in Cairo this morning (Sat).
