Family adventures are a fantastic way to explore the world with minimum hassle! WHAT IS A FAMILY ADVENTURE? It is a trip designed especially for families. That means the itinerary has been designed with kids in mind there are plenty of activities to keep them interested and no long travelling days or tiring excursions. It will keep their interest levels up and exhaustion levels down. Travelling on a family adventure means you'll be travelling in a small group with two or three other families (most of these trips have a maximum group size of just 15 people). That means there will be other kids to interact with, and plenty of fun for everyone! HOW WILL THE TRIP BE `FAMILY FRIENDLY'? Family trips have heaps of activities that will keep both parents and kids interested for example, fishing, cooking, snorkelling or a canoe trip. We have minimised long travelling days and have broken up travelling time with interesting stops along the way. We keep out of the heat of the day where we can, and we've chosen hotels with a pool wherever practical so that kids can have an afternoon of poolside fun after a morning of exploration. We'll make sure you are comfortably settled at your hotel early each evening and that there is no disrupted travel during the night. ARE THESE TRIPS JUST FOR FAMILIES? Yes, they are. Bringing the kids along is a vital part of family adventures in fact you can't join a family adventure without bringing at least one child! The minimum age for joining most of these trips is six years old. LOOKING AFTER THE KIDS Each trip is accompanied by a tour leader and sometimes there are other staff for example, in Nepal, there will be porters, in South Africa, a tour driver or camp staff. The tour leaders are there to share their country with you and make everything run like clockwork but they are not baby sitters. Parents or guardians are responsible for looking after their family each day and supervising their children. To ensure children will be appropriately supervised, every three children must be accompanied by at least one adult on our family adventures. HOW HARD WILL THE TRIP BE? Our family trips are graded `easy'. That means that activities are not too strenuous, the travel and accommodation are comfortable, and most kids and parents will find the trip physically easy. A minimum age is given for each trip, which we have judged is the minimum age that will cope easily with the trip activities and environment. There are a couple of exceptions to the `easy' grading. Trekking in Nepal is physically active and involves walking on each day of the 6-day trek. It is not overly steep or strenuous, but a bit of fitness, some training and an enjoyment of walking is required. In Africa, two trips are overland safaris, so there will be a lot of time spent in the safari vehicle if your kids can't stand car travel, it might be worth thinking about other options. In Peru, you have the option of adding the 4-day Inca Trail walk to the trip itinerary again, walking each day will require some energy and enthusiasm, from kids and parents alike! CAN I TRAVEL WITH JUST MY FAMILY? Of course you can! We can organise any of these trips or any Peregrine trip especially for your family! See page 7 for more details. TWIN-SHARE ACCOMMODATION The prices in this brochure are for twin-share accommodation. When booking two twinshare rooms for a family, we will do our best to ensure that rooms are next to each other. If you would like another option a triple or THE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE // 05 family room simply make your request when you book your trip. Your request may not always be able to be fulfilled perhaps a hotel simply does not have the type of room you want but it can often be organised. Prices may change depending on the type of room you have requested. MEALS In many countries we travel to, the food will be very different to home. Restaurants do not always cater for children there may be no special children's meals and the regional cuisine may be spicy. Children will need to be prepared to eat the local food, which will hopefully be a great highlight of your trip. COMPARE US TO THE REST We think we have the best range and best value family trips around. Compare us with others you'll find that our group size is smaller, that we include sightseeing and entrance fees in our trip price, we don't require a local payment in addition to the trip cost and we itemise domestic flights up front. There are no hidden extra charges. It's easy to see what you are getting a great trip and great value!
