Himalayan Kingdoms 13 Days
A colourful journey across the Himalaya, visiting Nepal, Indias state of Sikkim, and Bhutan
Our journey begins in the mystical Kathmandu Valley where we visit the bustling bazaars, the Buddhist stupa at Bodnath and the Hindu Pashupatinath Temple complex. We also have the option of a scenic flight towards Mount Everest. We fly to Bhadrapur on the Nepali-Indian border and drive down the foothills past tea gardens to the historic former British hill station of Darjeeling. We explore this enchanting town and include a short ride on the famous Toy Train, as well as watch the sunrise on the peaks of Everest and Kanchenjunga. Our next stop is Sikkim. In the capital, Gangtok, we explore the famous Rumtek Monastery, the largest in the country, before heading to Kalimpong, previously an important centre for wool trade with Tibet. A highlight of our tour is visiting the Kingdom of Bhutan. We enter the country at the Phuntsholing border and head to the capital, Thimphu. From here we explore the monasteries and fortresses of this ancient kingdom. In Paro we visit Taktsang (Tigers Nest), a small monastery clinging precariously to a ledge on a rock cliff high above the valley floor. This structure has become a symbol of a beautiful and mysterious kingdom that very few travellers in the world have experienced.

A wonderful trekking adventure in the little-travelled Bhutan Himalaya
Bhutan remains one of the least explored places in the Himalaya. Few tourists visit this secluded kingdom and even fewer trek its pristine trails. Protected on all sides by rugged mountain ranges, Bhutan has retained its unique Buddhist culture. Our journey begins in Paro where we warm up for our trek by visiting the famous Taktsang Monastery, popularly known as the Tigers Nest. We then head out into the hills, where we experience astounding scenic diversity including alpine lakes, beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, snowy mountain passes and remote trails always with the beautiful Himalayan mountains forming a spectacular backdrop. We end our trek in fascinating Thimphu the capital of Bhutan with a sightseeing tour, before returning, full of delightful memories, to Paro and our journey home.

Commence trek through forested trail to Jili dzong. ascend to the yak herders settlement of Jangchu lakha (3780m). Ridge walk to Jangchu la (4180m). Camp close to lake. Walk through dwarf rhododendron to simkota lake. Short climb to pass (4210m). descend to Phajoding Monastery. descend through forest to road. transfer to thimphu. Thimphu sightseeing including tashicho dzong and Painting School. drive to Paro. trip ends in Paro after breakfast (tue).
