This is a marvellous mix combining the highlights of the Nile Valley with the compelling wilderness of the Sinai and the Red Sea coast. We begin in Cairo, where we visit the pyramids, Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum. In Luxor we explore Karnak and the Valley of the Kings before a Nile cruise brings us to Aswan. Here theres free time to visit Abu Simbel before we return to Cairo to see something of the medieval city. We then travel into the Sinai where we can ascend Mount Sinai at dawn before exploring the desert on camels, in jeeps and on foot with our Bedouin friends. This is a truly memorable experience compounded by a night sleeping out under the stars. We spend two nights at the lively coastal resort of Sharm el Sheikh before returning to Cairo.
ITINERARY AND HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1 Day 2 (Fri) Arrive in Cairo and transfer to hotel. Visit Egypt Museum, pyramids and Sphinx. Sleeper train to Luxor. Day 3-4 Visit Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut and Colossi of Memnon. Board Nile cruise boat. Day 5-6 Sail to Aswan. Visit Edfu and Komombo Temples. Day 7 Free day in Aswan. Optional visit to Abu Simbel. Sleeper train to Cairo. Day 8 Arrive in Cairo. Visit medieval quarter. Day 9 Drive to the Sinai. Day 10 Optional ascent of Mount Sinai. Afternoon camel trek/jeep safari and camp overnight. Day 11 Morning desert walk. Drive to Sharm el Sheikh. Day 12 At leisure in Sharm el Sheikh. Day 13 Drive back to Cairo. Day 14 Trip ends in Cairo this morning (Thu).
