High Atlas Trek 10 Days
On this challenging trek we travel from the bustle of Marrakech to the open wilderness and Berber trails of the MGoun Massif. Nestled gently amidst the mountains of the Central High Atlas, Ait Bougmez the Happy Valley is a lush oasis full of green pastures, fruit orchards and shady walnut groves. We follow twisting mountain paths through this delightful region, meeting local Berber people along the way; the women are particularly eyecatching with their tattooed faces and coloured scarves. Culture has changed little here for centuries and discovering remote mudbrick kasbah villages offers a fascinating glimpse into this rural lifestyle. An ascent of Jebel MGoun, the second highest peak in the Atlas mountains, is a marvellous highlight that affords breathtaking views over the valley and down to the desert sands in the south.
