Wildlife Behind the Scenes 9 Days
A unique insight into wildlife and bush conservation, working with vets, researchers and ecologists
This safari provides an amazing opportunity to learn about the challenges of conserving Africas greatest wildlife species. During our visit to the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary we observe the chimps in semi-wild surroundings and shadow veterinarians at work. At a nearby elephant sanctuary, we interact closely with the African elephant and find many of the myths that surround these gentle giants soon dispelled. We gain firsthand knowledge of reptile veterinary practice at Khama Reptile Park and learn general wildlife conservation techniques at Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. At a private wildlife reserve we work with researchers to monitor an elephant population and gain bush-tracking skills and an understanding of dart guns and other wildlife immobilisation techniques. Several open-vehicle game drives in search of the coveted Big Five offer a more traditional wildlife experience to cap off this amazing conservation safari.
