Sun, sea and sand. It's a winning combination. And the Costa Dorada's got it in spades. Running south from Barcelona, this sun-baked sweep is made up of trendy seafront towns and bright and breezy beach resorts. Salou is the undisputed holiday hotspot, followed closely by neighbouring Cambrils and La Pineda. Together, this trio forms the backbone of the Costa Dorada. Further up the coast you've got the history-fest that is Tarragona, the old Roman capital of Spain. And last but not least you've got the chic little seaside town of Sitges. People flock to the Costa Dorada to simply flop on the Kodak-worthy sands. And who could blame them? It's not for nothing that Costa Dorada means Gold Coast'. Its shimmering ribbons stretch for 200 kilometres or so and, as you can imagine, it's a sun-seeker's dream come true. Sunshine aside, there's plenty of culture to soak up, too. Head to Barcelona for the day. Or maybe take the train to Montserrat. Of course, no description of the Costa Dorada would be complete without mentioning its star attraction - Port Aventura. Giving Alton Towers a run for its money, it's all loop-the-loop rollercoasters and splash-tastic log flumes. One thing's for sure, on the Costa Dorada, it's smiles all round.

For years now, PortAventura has been wowing the world with its thrill-packed mix of white knuckle rides, glitzy shows and eyepopping fireworks. It's got its own water park. And, hotels too. You can choose to stay at the Mediterranean Hotel PortAventura, the Caribbean-like Hotel Caribe or even the Mexican themed Hotel El Paso. But the piece de resistance has to be the new Beach Club down on the sands of Costa Dorada. Ride-wise, the Dragon Khan is certainly the star attraction, but there are plenty of other adrenaline-pumpers in the mix. Tutuki Splash which plunges from volcano to jungle river. Hurakan Condor which free-falls more than 100 metres. And Stampida runaway mine train. It's packed wall-to-wall with adventure. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground? Watch one of dozens of professional shows, where you can see everything from saloon girls doing the Can-Can to back-flipping Chinese acrobats. There really is something for everyone - including water. As exotic as a slice of the Caribbean, the Caribe Aquatic water park is all thatched huts and palm trees - and, as you would expect, it's jam-packed with watery fun. Plunge down slides. Corkscrew through chutes. And if you just want to chill, there's plenty of space to relax and catch some rays. It's not just the grown ups that'll be having a whale of a time either, there's a special section for children with water jets, pools and a baby bungee. Plus the fun doesn't have to end at sundown, instead make a beeline for the Gran Carib. This huge indoor water world is packed attractions. But, lets be honest, no holiday's complete without a bit of seaside sparkle. Cue Port Aventura's latest addition - the Beach Club. This vast stretch of private beach is set aside for guests staying at the Hotel PortAventura and the Hotel Caribe. PortAventura Sound good? There's more... just off the shore you'll find seven lagoon-like swimming A world full of thrills and spills awaits you pools cocooned by palm trees. And if you're wondering how you'll get with eight inverted loops, a drop at 120kph from PortAventura down to the Beach Club, don't worry. There's a regular shuttle service and a force of 4G's... it is not for the faint that'll whisk you down to the coast in a flash. In fact, it's clear to see that Port Aventura's hearted!
