On the one hand there's the Costa de la Luz - pretty, peaceful and as relaxing as it gets. On the other, the Costa del Sol - all fabulous beaches and family fun. Average daily maximum temperature 30 80 70 60 50 40 25 20 15 10 5 London Costa del Sol °F Apr 6 5 May Jun Jul Aug Sep Average daily hours of sunshine 8 11 11 11 9 6 7 6 6 5 Oct 7 3 °C Anyone who's scratched the surface of the Costas will know there's a lot more to the Med's most famous shoreline than buckets, spades and novelty sombreros. And nowhere is that more true than in the Costa de la Luz. It's Spain without its make-up if you like. The place to come if you want to see the country's natural beauty shine through. We're talking virgin sands washed by frothy silver surf. A high rise-free backdrop. And tapas joints spilling over with lightly-bronzed Spaniards. It's the ideal choice if peace and quiet tops your holiday wish list. The Costa del Sol, meanwhile is a different kettle of fish. Some of Spain's most famous holiday spots call this Costa home - places like Torremolinos, Marbella, Puerto Banus. And it's easy to see why it's so popular. It packs more sun-powered punch per inch than most other Mediterranean Meccas. More fun-packed entertainment than a flamenco dancing convention. And more celebrity glamour than a bumper issue of Hello magazine. Recently the likes of Bruce Willis and Britney Spears have been snapped enjoying the nightlife. Neon lights aside, most people come here for the beaches. From Estepona in the west to Nerja in the east, the coastline's lined with golden beaches that'll send your sun-seeking urges into overdrive. And if you want a breather from the beaches and buzz, there's plenty more waiting in the wings, too. Turn inland for a slice of authentic Andalucia. Cue fairytale pueblo blancos' like Frigiliana and Mijas. Snow-tipped mountains and rolling hills. Not to mention great Spanish cities like Seville and Granada with their Moorish palaces, cobbled lanes and fiery fiestas. Each one of them is drenched in a blissful 300 days of sunshine a year - well, this is the Sunshine Coast, after all. Generally Fuengirola caters for those who want to soak up the sun and play watersports, but there are a few sights to see, like the Moorish Castillo de Sohail. Torremolinos Location 11.5km west of Malaga Transfer Time 20 to 45 minutes. The biggest resort on Spain's Costa del Sol, it's a big hit with British tourists, and has been for decades. Nerja Location 55km east of Malaga Transfer Time 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes Perched on cliffs and backed by the Sierra Almijara mountains, Nerja has retained its Spanish charm. Explore its old quarter, with houses and shops down twisting lanes. And stop for wine and delicious paella along the charming Balcon de Europa promenade. Highlights Tetouan - Moroccan Delights Sample the sights and sounds of a different continent by crossing the narrow straits to Africa, arriving at the SpaniFsh enclave of Ceuta. Travel to Tetouan, a modern city which boasts one of the oldest and largest Medinas in Morroco. But it's inside the old city walls that you will really experience a different culture: see the men in traditional dress at work in tiny shops, making bread, textiles and shoes, while the herbal pharmacy offers some unique souvenirs! Tetouan is your chance to get a true taste of the Arab world - including a typical lunch in the best restaurant in town. Gibraltar Rock Tour A visit to Gibraltar isn't the same without discovering the history of its famous rock. The Rock Tour's knowledgeable guide and driver will give you an insight into Gibraltar's remarkable past and present. In the unique World War II tunnels you'll have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Churchill, Sikorski and de Gaulle. See where nearly 10,000 civilians and soldiers worked and lived deep inside the rock. Your visit would not be complete without seeing the Gibraltar apes, whose presence on the rock is said to guarantee continued British sovereignty: a great photo opportunity! Benalmadena Location 17km west of Malaga Transfer Time About 1 hour Butting up against Torremolinos, life in lively Benalmadena revolves around its massive marina, also the hub of the resort's social scene.
