Although the infrastructure can be patchy and you need patience at times, your reward is a country and people uncorrupted by mass tourism. We tailor this holiday to meet your needs. How active?
This is a tailor-made holiday, and although we have a suggested schedule, it is up to you how much or how little you do. Whatever you decide, you need to be fairly robust in order to deal with the heat and sometimes patchy infrastructure. Around León, the main activity is hiking, with routes of between five and ten kilometres per day, sometimes in exposed conditions. When travelling through the jungle wetlands, you will be climbing in and out of boats and walking on narrow, muddy pathways. At the beach you can switch off and relax on the glorious golden sands.

How comfortable?
The accommodation is very varied on this holiday in the towns and cities you will stay in pleasant three or four star colonial style properties in carefully chosen locations. On the Solentiname Islands you will stay in the most basic accommodation of the holiday although it is superbly located. The islands have no electricity or running water and the rooms are basic with cold water showers. Your final destination is a luxurious eco-lodge on the southern coast. The stunning location and delicious food combined with a genuine commitment to the local culture and economy make this a great way to end your holiday.

Experience this wonderful country as yet untouched by mass tourism. · Day 1 Travel to Managua. · Day 2 Drive to the volcanic region of León. · Day 3 Explore the city of León on foot with your guide. · Day 4 Walk up Cerro Negro Volcano then relax on a beach. · Day 5 Travel by small plane and boat to a lake island where you visit a famous colony of artists. · Day 6 Explore a jungle reserve by boat looking for monkeys, sloth and caiman. · Day 7 Travel to the continent's oldest European city. · Day 8 Explore Granada with your guide. · Day 9 Walk through tropical forests to a volcanic crater. · Day 10 Travel south to a luxurious beach eco-lodge surrounded by primary forest. · Day 11 Swim and relax on the long, empty beaches. · Day 12 For something more active you can cycle, kayak, surf or ride horses. · Day 13 Sea turtles nest here and baby turtles can be seen from August to January. · Day 14 Return to Managua this afternoon. · Day 15 Travel home.
