Although this is one of our less active holiday itineraries, there are some days of walking and you may be visiting high altitudes. The network of trails in the cloudforest can lead from a half hour stroll to several hours of hiking, so you can choose how much or how little you want to walk on any given day. In the Galapagos, your main activity will be watching the surrounding wildlife, with shore excursions involving some gentle walking in potentially hot conditions. All boats offer you the chance to swim and snorkel on most days.

Sail around the Galapagos Islands to see an amazing diversity of animals. · Day 1 Fly to Quito. · Day 2 Travel by boat to your remote Amazon lodge. · Day 3 Explore a lagoon in a small handmade canoe to spot wildlife. · Day 4 Set off early to get to the nearby parrot clay-lick. · Day 5 Watch the rainforest canopy from an observation tower. · Day 6 Travel to the cloudforest; watch the birdlife. · Day 7 Walk to a waterfall. · Day 8 Visit a traditional market. · Day 9 Explore Quito with your guide. · Day 10 Fly to the Galapagos. · Day 11 Visit the giant tortoises of the Charles Darwin Research Station. · Day 12 Swim with playful sea lions from the beach and visit bird colonies. · Day 13 Snorkel amidst teeming marine life, visit a cave near Post Office Bay. · Day 14 Walk across a huge lava flow; swim with sea lions in a secluded bay. · Day 15 Walk through a huge colony of marine iguanas lazing on the shore. · Day 16 Swim with penguins then climb to a lovely viewpoint. · Day 17 Observe the birdlife of a mangrove forest at dawn. Fly home. · Day 18 Arrive back.
How comfortable?
In Quito you stay in a very comfortable colonial style hotel. The only fixed part of this holiday is the Galapagos cruise so we can tailor arrangements to almost any extent. The lodges in the jungle and cloudforest are comfortable affairs, with private facilities. These lodges have screened windows and insect nets and are chosen for their intimate atmosphere as well as the quality of wildlife. In the Galapagos we use first class motor sailors with large open deck space, warm wooden interiors, single bunks and great atmosphere.
