Experience the fantastic contrast of skiing the Andes and walking in a high desert. Enjoy Chillán's friendly, informal atmosphere and world class skiing. Walk and cycle in the beautiful, varied scenery of the Atacama Desert. · Day 1 Fly to Chile. · Day 2 Morning flight south to Chillán. Soak in hot springs. · Day 3 Ski the slopes spread across two volcanoes. · Day 4 Five hours of small group lessons are included for you today. · Day 5 From the top of the resort (2,700m) you look out across the Andes. · Day 6 Full day to ski. For some pampering, book in for a massage or spa treatment. · Day 7 Try cross-country skiing or heli-skiing for some off-piste adventure. · Day 8 Chillán gives you a real flavour of Chile as well as being a world class resort. · Day 9 Catch the train north to Santiago for an evening out. · Day 10 Tour Santiago before flying up to the Atacama and your boutique hotel. · Day 11 Morning bike ride across salt flats; afternoon walk in the salt mountains. · Day 12 Full day walking on old Inca roads in the high Andes. · Day 13 Walk to summit of dormant volcano; relax this afternoon. · Day 14 Visit the world's highest geothermal field; fly to Santiago. · Day 15 Fly home. · Day 16 Arrive back.
How active?
Chillán has 10,000 hectares of pisted slopes, both above and below the tree line, spread over the slopes of two volcanoes. The resort offers consistently good snow, as well as its own volcanic hot springs. For the more experienced, there is plenty of accessible off-piste. For the less experienced, lessons are included. Although there is some high altitude walking in the Atacama, you stay in San Pedro which is just over 2,000m. You work your way up to the higher altitudes over the course of several days. Activities are `return to base' so you can take rest days if you wish. We can tailor this holiday to suit you.
How comfortable?
Chillán offers an exceptional ski in/ski out five star hotel with private spa and hot springs, although there is good lower grade accommodation nearby. You are independent whilst skiing although the resort has English speaking instructors. Pura has people on the ground in Santiago to support you in case of need. In San Pedro you stay in a lovely adobe-style boutique hotel on the edge of town with a small pool and views onto Licancabur volcano. You have your own Pura Aventura guide whilst in the Atacama so you are in control of what you do and when.
