How active?
This trip is for intermediate to experienced riders, as the pace is moderate to fast. Daily distances are between 20 and 40km which equates to five to eight hours in the saddle. The pace is largely dictated by the terrain and the distance you need to travel on a given day. Where possible you will be trotting and cantering with some stretches where you can ride faster. This trip is recommended for those who are fit enough to canter for extended periods and spend long hours in the saddle.
How comfortable?
This holiday is as comfortable as you can get whilst travelling in this remote area. There is no camping although you will spend a couple of nights in basic refugio accommodation. Refugios are wooden lodges with hot showers and rooms with four to six bunks. Elsewhere you will stay in simple, comfortable farmhouses and lodges in twin or double rooms. Staying in such accommodation gives you a privileged insight into the traditional hospitality of the huaso (Chilean cowboy) culture. Groups are fully guided and supported with a maximum of 12 riders.
