Walk Chile Vineyards & Volcanoes
06 Nov | Maule | Visit vineyards
After breakfast take a tour of local vineyards. Here in Maule they really are not set up for visits in the same way they are in Colchagua. This tends to give visits in this area an unpolished charm. In addition, the vineyards you visit today are very small, family run operations. Start the day with a stroll through vineyards to the colonial estate house where you taste their wines. Continue to a vineyard with a tiny production which is put into novelty shaped bottles saying little for the quality of the contents.
The sands of Playa Infiernillo
04 Nov | Maule | Explore the coast
Leave the Colchagua Valley to continue south following the gorgeous and remote Pacific Coast. This part of your journey takes you well off the beaten track. Stop off at the Playa Infiernillo for a walk along the beach with Pacific surf pounding the empty sands. After your walk, carry on to the fishing village of Duao where you can enjoy the chaotic and colourful scenes of the fishing boats lined up along the shore. Relax over a first rate seafood lunch on the beach. People in these parts really do not see many visitors, let alone foreigners, so you may be of great interest to the locals.
However, what makes it interesting is that the owners are very important figures in the world of pure bred Chilean horses. Watch some traditional, and often amazing, riding skills whilst enjoying a sip of wine and a bit of tasty food. Compliment their bottles and dont mention that you arent there for the wine and well be just fine. Relax a while this afternoon with a dip in the hotel pool if you like. Visit a third vineyard this afternoon before heading into the town of Talca this evening for dinner in a fine restaurant. (b,l,d)
07 Nov | Los Angeles | Drive to a ranch
Continue your journey south towards the town of Los Angeles with a total drive of about 2! hours.
Relax on your charming ranch near Los Angeles. The fishermen of Duao
Make your way back inland to stay in a charming but fairly basic small inn just outside the town of Talca. Total driving time today is around 4 hours with the longest leg being 1! hours long. (b,l,d)
The town of Chillán also has a very good artesan market. Its not the sort of place set up for tourists: its really a municipal market where people from the surrounding countryside come to sell their work. Buy some of the delicious fruit to eat as you wander. Stop for a traditional lunch just outside the town in a restaurant with beautiful views of the countryside. Stop for a short walk around the beautiful Saltos de Laja waterfalls. Spend the next two nights on a working ranch set in 500 hectares. Enjoy luxurious homestay style accommodation with an émigré English family. (b,l,d)
05 Nov | Maule | Walk in the high Andes
Spend today walking in the forests of Altos del Lircay reserve on the slopes of the Andes. This park is really very little visited so you can enjoy a relaxed though long day of walking through beautiful wooded surroundings. From the top you can have spectacular views, along the way you can enjoy the variety of native flora and fauna, particularly birds. Enjoy a hearty dinner in a local restaurant which specialises in meats and fish grilled over wood. (b,l,d)
08 Nov | Los Angeles | Relax, ride or walk
Spend today on the ranch either relaxing, walking or riding their horses. Xabi remains with you to lead any activities. (b,l,d)
