The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Arctic Sky. The Northern Lights originate from the sun, where large explosions and electronic storms throw flares and solar particles deep into space. The clouds of solar particles are caught by the Earths magnetic field on the south and north poles. When the solar particles collide with the atmospheric gases, it creates this wonderful light effect. NOTE: This tour will only operate subject to the correct weather conditions for sightings, usually during crispy cold and very still evenings.

Visit the cone-shaped, ice covered strato-volcano Snaefellsjokull, the Snæfellsjökull National Park and take a short walk to the huge stone structure called Bárõur Snæfellsás. Journey along the rugged coastline, pass the picturesque Arnarstapi harbour, and onwards to a wonderful beach walk at Djúpalónssandur. The charismatic puffins arrive in Iceland in April and depart at the end of August. During the breeding season our tours visit the bird-island Akurey - one of the two puffin islands near Reykjavik and home to over 15,000 pairs of puffins. This tour comes extremely close to Akurey, providing excellent photo opportunities for visitors.

View whales in one of the best places for whale watching, in the coastal waters off the scenic Snaefellsnes peninsula of Iceland, plus catch a possible view of the famous glacier Snæfellsjökull. Many species of whales can be spotted from early to late Summer, as well as numerous sea birds, which likewise feed in these rich waters.
