ith its melting pot of influences, Croatia continues to delight Skedaddle bikers, year after year. Our time here is spent in the beautiful northern peninsula of Istria, in the northwest of Croatia. This is a region with an ancient history, stunning coastline, rolling countryside with medieval hilltop towns and villages. The spiders web of ancient old roads, tracks and paths provide an excellent network of trails that criss-cross the countryside and allow us to explore the hills and fertile green valleys that stretch down to the sea. The riding here is ideal for the regular cyclist, those relatively new to mountain biking or for those looking for some cross country off road riding and to explore a hidden corner of Europe. Our start point for this circular tour is a small agritourismo near the village of Klostar, situated near the dramatic Lim Fjord and
provides an excellent introduction to the warm Croatian hospitality. From Klostar, we head inland through vineyards to the beautiful old capital of Istria, Pazin. From Pazin we follow a trail through the very heart of Istria to Buzet (City of Truffles), and then onto Motovun, another charming old town and our base for the next few nights, as we explore the surrounding hills. Our journey then takes us to the famous wine region of Malvazija and the western coast for a swim.
