Chapada Brazil
Chapada Salvador Belo Horizonte Rio de Janeiro
Brazil
More than anywhere else in the country, the African influence in the makeup of Brazilian culture is readily visible here. Our trip starts in earnest once we arrive at the main village in the Chapada, Lençóis. Bisected by a stepped waterfall Lençóis is simply lovely, with a lively centre and it is from here that our biking will begin. The landscape of the Chapada is characterised by its Tepuy (flat top mountains). With the rivers of these Tepuy, carving out deep canyons in the hills and plains, creating scenery of divine beauty. Everything in the Chapada is wonderful, but the waterfalls deserve special attention. The most famous is the Cachoeira da Fumaça, the highest fall in the country, where the fall of 380 meters transforms the water into vapour creating a unique spectacle. Others like the Cachoeira do Buracão are among the most beautiful of Brazil.

But the Chapada offers much more. The caverns of Poço Azul (Blue Pool), Lapa Doce and Pratinha, the amazing hills of the Capão Valley and the incredible blue waters of the Poço Encantado (the Enchanted Pool) complete what is a wonderful scenario.
hapada Diamantina one of the most fascinating natural parks of Brazil. Valleys of lush green dotted with bright tropical flowers surround a mountain range of twisted red rock formations. What was once a refugee of precious stone hunters who came in search of diamonds, it is now a rare jewel of a biking destination. Following same day flights from the UK, we arrive at the capital of the state of Bahia, Salvador. The city lies between green tropical hills and broad beaches along the bay of Todos os Santos and served as the capital of colonial Brazil for almost two centuries.

Our biking sees us visit all the major sights of the area and with some waterfalls, caverns and grottos only accessible on foot, well be riding to the trail heads and then taking some short hikes to make the most of these spectacular sights. Combine this with stays in wonderful hotels and the flair of Salvador and youve got a fantastic Brazilian adventure.
