OUR HIGHLANDS FLING
Having been on numerous Skedaddle trips, we decided it was time to try something a bit closer to home and booked on the Highlands.
First day and we weren't disappointed - thrilling singletrack, rocky ascents/descents and the customary Skedaddle beer challenge - those impossible hills thrown in to perfect bike carrying techniques. Next up was easier with a beautiful ride along the Caledonian Canal, to prepare for the next day and the Corrieyairack Pass. With great encouragement from the guides, it was a challenging but doable climb leaving enough energy to enjoy the scenery. The descent was without doubt one of the best descents we have ever ridden and waiting at the bottom was lunch - blissfull!! The next two days provided great diversity in the terrain covering technical singletrack, woodland paths and rocky ascents/descents not to mention the odd river crossing (my socks are still drying out!). Skedaddle had arranged great accommodation and evening meals and starting to feel overfed, we needed a mountain to climb and conveniently `found' Mount Keane. There was no way we were going to ride all the way up - even with our guides enthusiasm and encouragement! After a good effort we put our bike carrying skills in to play and were rewarded at the top with amazing views of the Cairngorms, Glen Tanar and the Spittal of Glenmuick - wow! With only a few miles left for our last day - a distance for which snacks are just plain greedy and the end of our trip. It was sadly over too soon and we'd had so much fun we just wanted to turn around and do it all over again!! Vicky Blewitt and Vicky Amlot The Flying V's
