he foothills of the Alps and soft countryside around Salzburg provided the inspiration for the classic film The Sound of Music. So what could be more enjoyable than biking along the shoreline paths of the clear lakes in such a wonderfully unspoilt countryside.
This gentle to moderate cycling holiday has some daily variations en route and is suitable for families with older children. The route follows mainly dedicated cycle paths, lakeside routes and country lanes. There are some short climbs, a train ride, and even a short section on foot whilst your bike is transferred to the top of the hill. This provides a stunning downhill ride through a picturesque gorge back to Salzburg. With your luggage transferred each day, good quality hotels and with lovely food to round off each day, this is relaxing holiday, on which you can almost hear Maria singing in the background!

Our tour explores the region of Salzkammergut and the Trumer Lakes as you cycle through emerald green pastures and mighty forests, with the dramatic backdrop of the Alpine peaks. The beautiful cultural city of Salzburg, Mozarts home town, is our start and finish point for this tour. Our route takes us through the Silent Night town of Oberdorf and the Austrian Emperors summer residence in Bad Ischl. The regions historical wealth comes from its salt mines and trading, this is reflected in the picture postcard towns and villages on the lakes through which you pass.
