Hadrians Cycle Way
This coast-to-coast holiday boasts craggy highlands, atmospheric countryside, peaceful river valleys and finishes in the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Utilising the National Cycle Network, with that extra Skedaddle ingredient, we travel gently along the boundary of the Old Roman Empire, starting and finishing at either end of the world heritage site, Hadrians Wall. Using quiet country lanes and cycle paths you will be able to follow in the footsteps of Roman soldiers including a visit to the Roman fort of Vindolanda, whilst experiencing some of the rich heritage that Cumbria and Northumberland have to offer. This is a great option for families or those looking to complete a coast to coast journey at a more leisurely pace.
Pennine Cycle Way
The Pennine Cycle Way North begins in Appleby-inWestmorland and finishes in Berwick-upon-Tweed, 150 miles down the road. Starting in the Eden Valley, we continue with a dramatic traverse of the North Pennines at Hartside, before meandering our way through the South Tyne Valley, past Hadrians Wall and into the Northumberland National Park prior to reaching the border hills of the Cheviots. Finally you wind your way over Millfield Plain, through the Scottish Borders to end at the historic Elizabethan walled border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. This is a varied cycling journey through an ever changing landscape, from open moorland to superb coastal riding and is a great way to see this unspoilt part of northern England.
