Tropical landscapes. Spanish-style villages. Dramatic mountain ranges. Unspoilt La Palma is an island of striking contrast. La Palma When people think of the Canaries, La Palma isnt an island that immediately springs to mind. Many havent even heard of it. But its anonymity among the tourist masses means its remained delightfully unspoilt. Good news for the rest of us. Pretty, peaceful and as picturesque as they come, you wont find any neon-lit strips on the streets. Instead, you get the untouched Canaries of yesteryear. Quaint whitewashed houses and grand colonial villas. Sleepy little towns and tasteful low-rise resorts. And of course, La Palmas trump card - the scenery.Think mountains cloaked in perfumed pine trees. Dramatic ravines. And sundappled evergreen forests. Its no wonder the locals call it La Isla Bonita the Beautiful Island. But although its peaceful, youll find plenty to keep you occupied too. For a start, theres the largest volcanic crater in the world, La Caldera de Taburiente. Like the rest of the Canaries, La Palma has a volcanic past. If you enjoy walking, why not follow the volcano trail in the south of the island? Or perhaps youll explore the wild and rugged coastline. With hideaway coves and black sandy beaches, finding a spot all to yourself shouldnt be too much trouble. Mother Nature certainly did some of her best work in La Palma. Isnt it time you discovered it?
