Villa Holidays All You Need to Know All of our self-catering villa accommodation is privately owned and reflects both the tastes of the proprietors and the local lifestyle. Furnishings may be simple, as they are holiday homes, rather than lived-in accommodation. Despite this simplicity, however, we do insist that the accommodation we use comes up to reasonable standards; clean paint work, comfortable beds and pillows, operational lighting and plumbing, and furniture and equipment in good repair. All of our properties have been inspected by us personally and we instruct the owners on any improvements to be made before the start of the season. However, please do not expect to find, in the simpler properties, the level of comfort you enjoy at home. The kitchens in our self-catering accommodation have adequate cooking utensils for the preparation of light meals. We have endeavoured to ensure that most accommodation has a kettle and teapot, however, it should be noted that the equipment reflects local style rather than British customs. We provide washing-up liquid, cloths, starter tablets for properties with dishwashers and lavatory paper, as well as a fan in non-air-conditioned properties and a plug in mosquito repellent in all villas and apartments. Due to safety reasons, it is not possible to provide barbecues for use on balconies or small terraces, or in properties where, due to surrounding vegetation, a barbecue could be a fire hazard. We urge you to take advantage of the detailed knowledge of our reservations staff when choosing your accommodation. Cleaning & Maid Service Bed linen, bath, hand and Simply Travel beach towels are provided for self-catering guests. Villas are cleaned for your arrival and if your accommodation requires more than the normal cleaning on your departure, a charge may be deducted from your security deposit, if youve been asked to pay one, to cover this. As time is short on changeover days, you are requested to do a minimal clean in order to leave the villa in a reasonable state, which includes:   Stripping the beds and arranging all dirty linen and towels together   Disposing of all rubbish, perishables and bottles from the property   Leaving all kitchen equipment, crockery and cutlery thoroughly clean, dry and stored away   Wiping down all surfaces and removing any deep grime (such as on cookers)   Where applicable, emptying barbecue and leaving it clean Failure to apply this courtesy may result in the deduction of costs of extra cleaning from your security deposit held in resort. Maid service is provided generally twice in a one-week stay or three times in a two-week stay, including the changeover clean. This does not apply to Tuscany or Umbria, where there is just a mid-stay change of linen in a two-week stay. Maids are not responsible for washing dishes, laundry, ironing or emptying rubbish, although many will be happy to assist with laundry for a small additional payment. Please note that maid service is not applicable for Corsica. Complimentary Welcome Hamper Our welcome hamper is designed so that you dont have to rush off shopping the moment you arrive. We provide a welcome pack of basic items, which includes: tea, coffee and sugar, milk, mineral water, a bottle of wine plus additional local produce, depending on the time of the year. We also ensure that when you arrive there are sufficient supplies of washing up liquid, toilet paper (and washing powder or dishwasher powder where appropriate) to tide you over the first few days. Please note that our welcome pack is subject to items changing. Cots We can arrange cots and highchairs in your villa (subject to availability) although we do advise that you pre-book them. Heating & air-conditioning Most of our accommodation has heating facilities. You will normally be asked to pay a supplement for use of the heating, especially if this involves wood or coal for fires, and the actual sum payable will vary according to how much additional power/fuel is used. The provision of heating and hours of operation may be at the owners discretion, in compliance with fuel saving requirements in some areas. Charges for heating vary on the size of the apartment/villa, but will generally be between £5-£20 per day. Any such supplements should be paid directly to our local representative or owner. Some of our hotels and villas have air-conditioning - use of this facility is at the discretion of the owner or hotelier and may be payable locally - please check with our reservations staff if this facility is particularly important to you. Linen & towels Linen and towels are generally changed weekly. Please note that in some cases clean linen is provided by the maid for you to then make up the beds. Sheets, pillowcases, hand and bath towels, tea towels and large Simply Travel beach towels are provided in self catering accommodation. These are normally laundered only at the end of your stay. Please bring your own cot linen. Please do not forget your beach towels on the beach or at swimming pools. Security deposits The local agent or property owner may require you to lodge a security deposit on arrival as an indemnity against breakage/damage caused to the property. If the property is left in a substandard condition that requires additional cleaning, or has items that have been damaged or broken, a deduction may be made from your deposit before it is refunded. The amount required for this deposit varies from one property to another and may be requested in local currency, by travellers cheque, Eurocheque or credit card. Please note that it is your responsibility to arrange for the repayment of the security. Advance notice of your departure time must be given to them so that the property can be inspected before you leave. In certain cases your deposit will be returned by post. As the accommodation deposit is not held by us, we cannot accept responsibility for any disputes which may arise, though we will endeavour to offer our assistance to resolve them. Details of the amount and type of deposit required for each property can be found on our website and through our call centre. Swimming pools In the event of adverse weather conditions, opening may be delayed or closure brought forward. Swimming pools may sometimes be out of use in early or late season (April/early May and October). Pools are not heated unless specified. Please be sure to observe any special conditions regarding the use of the pool. Many pools have a plastic liner which can be ripped if foreign objects (including childrens toys, flippers and snorkels) are thrown in, and all pool mechanisms risk blockage if swimmers do not shower off suntan oil or sand before entering the pool. Also take note of the depth/variation of depth of the pool. Water, gas and electricity In periods of prolonged drought there may be occasional interruptions to the water supply. Also, in the summer months, the water pressure may drop due to excessive demand causing disruption to water heaters. Please note: Some of our properties are converted farmhouses, old mills, etc and have old style plumbing. This means the pipes used are narrower than normal and it may be prohibited to flush paper etc down the wc.
