Skiathos
From any point on the island, the seascape is a magnificent watercolour in luminescent shades of azure, aquamarine, turquoise, emerald, gold & silver.
With its easygoing holiday atmosphere, lush scenic beauty and sublime seascapes, Skiathos demands nothing more than to be enjoyed. It is said to have a greater number of sandy beaches than any other Greek island, with rocky headlands cloaked in pine and olive trees punctuated by one golden sandy beach after another. With the powder-soft sands shelving gently into the sea in most places, and virtually no strong currents, bathing is very safe, so it is no surprise that in the peak of the summer season the lure of the beaches is simply too hard to resist. The islands scarcely visited hinterland is equally inviting and offers a superb terrain for walking,
through gently rolling hills, shady olive groves and lush orchards. Skiathos Town is a picturesque cluster of whitewashed, red-tiled houses sprawling between two hills. A sophisticated town, with chic boutiques and tempting antique shops, it has retained its traditional Greek charm. Village life continues more or less unchanged in the steep, narrow lanes, and along the pretty quayside lively bars and restaurants rub shoulders with traditional ouzeries. In between the two harbours stands the tiny isle of Bourtzi, linked by a small causeway, whose former fortress is now an open-air theatre for concerts, plays and cultural events.
