SKYROSHOLIDAYS Skyros Village Centre Life coaching programme The Skyros Village Centre, home of the Life Coaching programme and the Writers Lab, nestles on the hillside at the edge of Skyros village. Built high up long ago to evade the clutches of the Mediterranean pirates, the village is accessible only by foot through narrow, cobblestoned streets. The beach is a pleasant ten minute walk away. The Centres courtyard, shaded by fig and pomegranate trees, has a panoramic view of the valley and the Aegean. Its white walls are covered by bougainvilleas and grapevines. In this delightful environment people can appreciate the unalloyed beauty of Greece, engage in joyful holiday activities and enjoy the company of new, like-minded friends. Stepping back from the stresses of everyday life, they can also reach new insights, reconnect with the source of their creativity and experience a wonderful sense of liberation. As one participant wrote, Skyros is sunshine for the soul. Life at the Centre is bursting with energy. A typical day begins with yoga followed by a delicious breakfast on the terrace and then the mid-morning workshop, the centrepiece to the day. Afternoons are free for the beach, maybe a massage, and certainly a siesta which for the Mediterraneans is a must and which even Churchill recommended in his memoirs! This year the Centre is also embarking on A Taste of Greece programme with events ranging from Greek music, dance and mythology to moussaka making or Greek winetasting. Such events are a regular feature of the programme just before dinner. Whether one goes for the island speciality, lobster with spaghetti, or for fresh fish grilled with lemon or perhaps stuffed tomatoes, with feta salad and Kalamata olives, dinner is almost a spiritual experience. With the night ever young, there may well be dancing until late or magical moonlit walks. I feel I made bonds that will last a lifetime because the friendships were based on getting to know the real me and vice versa.
