Turnpike Cottage is a self contained wing of Turnpike House, a Wealden Hall House, built around 1430 retaining many of its original features. The cottage is in the centre of the village of Marden with restaurants, two pubs, a farm shop, supermarket, garage and bank all within a few yards. Both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells are close by and the mainline railway station, 10 minutes walk away, offers fast and regular links to London (Charing Cross) as well as Canterbury and the Kent coast. For the more adventurous, the Eurotunnel Shuttle at Folkestone is about 45 minutes away for a day trip to France. Within an hour's drive are the National Trust's Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, Scotney and Bodiam Castles, Batemans, Igthman Mote and Chartwell. Nearby too are Leeds Castle, Bedgebury Pinetum, Godinton House, Tudeley Church and Finchcocks Piano Museum.
Accommodation
The beamed Turnpike Cottage benefits from its own entrance, adjacent to the entrance and terrace for Turnpike House. The small hallway, well stocked with books and CDs, leads to the kitchen, simply equipped with microwave, fridge, small electric oven with 2 ring electric hob and dining table. From the hallway, stairs lead to the first floor landing, small double bedroom with a 4ft 6in double bed, separate bathroom with shower attachment and, overlooking the village street, the spacious and comfortable sitting room with flat-screen Freeview TV and DVD. Outside, there is a gravelled sitting out area with table and chairs as well as car parking. Guests can also enjoy access to the garden, which is shared with the owners. No Pets Allowed, No Smoking.
