Programme
Day 1 Arrival Flight or rail from the UK to Switzerland and 2nd class rail transfer to Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne. Day 2 Excursion to Mount Rigi Excursion to Mount Rigi. Enjoy the round trip travelling by boat across Lake Lucerne to Vitznau and up by cogwheel train to 5,500ft/1,800m. Breathtaking views of Lake Lucerne, the Alps and Central Switzerland await you. There are over 100km of gentle walking and hiking trails as well as various restaurants with sun terraces. At the end of the day take the train down and on along Lake Zug back to Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne. Day 3 Lucerne to St. Moritz Rail transfer via Thalwil and Chur on to St. Moritz. Enjoy the efficiency of the Swiss Railway System and the countryside changing from the softness of Central Switzerland to the wilder landscape of the Engadine. Overnight in St. Moritz. Day 4 Free day Day at leisure. Exploring the stunning Engadine countryside is a must! There are hundreds of walking and hiking trails for all abilities. Alternatively make use of your Half Fare Card and join the famous Bernina Express to cross the Bernina Pass at an incredible 2,253m/7,391ft by train. Overnight in St. Moritz. Day 5 Glacier Express journey Today join the famous Glacier Express. From 20th May 2006 new panorama carriages will be used on the route St.Moritz and Zermatt, with lunch being served at your seat, and commentary available via headphones in 6 languages. The Glacier Express crosses no less than 291 bridges and 91 tunnels on its journey to Zermatt - an amazing engineering feat let alone an unforgettable journey. Overnight in Zermatt. Day 6 Excursion to Gornergrat Excursion to Gornergrat. The highest cogwheel train in Switzerland will take you from Zermatt to an altitude of 3,089m/10,164ft. During the ride to the summit you will experience excellent vantage points for some 29 four-thousand-meter peaks including the mighty Matterhorn. Overnight in Zermatt. Day 7 Exploring Geneva Morning in Zermatt or early departure by train to Geneva. Switzerlands second largest city offers a wealth of tourist attractions, museums, exhibitions and excellent shopping facilities. Its charming location on Lake Geneva also invites to great lake cruises. Overnight in Geneva. Day 8 Departure Rail transfer to Geneva airport or Swiss border and flight or rail back to the UK.
