Tailor-made With an area of 41,285 sq km, Switzerland is the most mountainous nation in Europe. It has a railway network that is the envy of the world, this means that the accessibility to the many mountain tops has to be good, and it is very good.
Jungfraujoch Top of Europe (Bernese Oberland / Interlaken) At 3,454m (11,333ft) the Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in Europe and well worth a visit. Eternal ice and snow: Sphinx Terrace with its fantastic view onto the Aletsch Glacier, Ice Palace and the Walking Plateau to walk on snow all year round. Duration: approx. 2h30 each way from Interlaken. Cost: £81.05 return or £40.55 with Swiss Card or Swiss Pass. Schilthorn Piz Gloria (Bernese Oberland / Interlaken) There is no better place to fully appreciate the breathtaking beauty of the Swiss Alps than from the summit of 2,970m (9,7444ft) high Schilthorn. Imagine being able to see more than 200 mountain peaks ranging from the Bernese Oberland to Mont Blanc in France and the Black Forest in Germany. Roundtrip by cable car and train approx. 1h30 each way. Cost: £53 for a round trip or £26.5 with Swiss Card or Swiss Pass. Mount Pilatus The Dragon Mountain (Central Switzerland / Lake Lucerne) Enjoy the Pilatus experience, one of the highlights of Central Switzerland at 2,132 m (6,985ft). In the summer months (from June) book the Golden Round Trip by boat, cogwheel train and aerial cable car. Duration: approx. 4 -5 hours for the round trip from Lucerne. Cost: £34 or £17 with Swiss Card or Swiss Pass. Mount Rigi Queen of the mountains (Central Switzerland / Lake Lucerne) Mount Rigi, at 1,800 m (5,896ft) enjoys fantastic views of the Alps. The excursion to Rigi Kulm is a combination of a cogwheel train ride, an aerial cable-car ride and a boat trip on Lake Lucerne. Duration: approx. 5h for the round trip from Lucerne. Cost: £40 or £20 with your Swiss Card or Swiss Pass. Mount Titlis (Central Switzerland / Engelberg) Visit the glacier paradise at 3,020 m (10,000 ft) with an excursion to the highest point in Central Switzerland: Mount Titlis. Experience a ride in the Rotair, the first revolving aerial cable car in the world, and enjoy a breathtaking 360° panoramic view. Duration: approx. 4h for the return trip from Lucerne. Cost: £53 or £26.50 with you Swiss Card or Swiss Pass. Gornergrat (Valais / Zermatt) The highest cogwheel train in Switzerland will take you from Zermatt to an altitude of 3,089m (10,164ft). During the ride to the summit you will experience excellent vantage points for some 29 four-thousand-meter peaks including the mighty Matterhorn. Duration: 45 minutes each way.
