Programme
Day 1 Arrival Flight or rail from the UK to Switzerland and 2nd class rail transfer to Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne. Day 2 Gondola ride to Mount Titlis Todays excursion takes you to Mount Titlis for some spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. First board the train to Engelberg from where the first of a set of three gondolas will slowly take you to a height of 10,000ft (3,048m). The last stage of your ascent is in the worlds first rotating gondola TITLIS ROTAIR. Overnight in Lucerne. Day 3 Steam railway to Brienzer Rothorn A trip from Lucerne to Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland. First you take the Brünig railway to the wood-carving village of Brienz. The Rothorn railway then takes you up the Brienzer Rothorn with its excellent hiking trails and superb views of Lake Brienz. On this journey several steam engines are in service every summer from June to October 5 of them date back to 1891/92, the others to 1933 and 1936. In the afternoon you descend to Brienz and take a boat or train to Interlaken Ost. Overnight in Interlaken. We recommend forwarding your luggage from Lucerne on this day. (Supplement.) Day 4 Excursion to the Jungfraujoch Enjoy the best of the beautiful Bernese Oberland. First take the train from Interlaken Ost via Lauterbrunnen and Wengen to the Kleine Scheidegg at the foot of the famous Eiger.You then take the Jungfrau railway via "Eiger Gletscher" to the Jungfraujoch the highest railway station in Europe at 11,300ft (3,454m) with some breathtaking views of the Aletsch glacier, the longest in the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overnight in Interlaken. Day 5 Cogwheel train to Alpine Garden Take the train to Wilderswil, then the cog-train up to Schynige Platte with its unique Alpine Garden and views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The Alpine Garden displays some 500 different flowering plants and ferns with the main flower time being mid-June until late September. Return to Interlaken. Overnight in Interlaken. Day 6 Interlaken to Zermatt Another spectacular train journey! From Interlaken you travel via Spiez and Brig (change in both villages) to the famous car-free Alpine resort of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn. Overnight in Zermatt. Day 7 Excursion to Gornergrat The highest cogwheel train in Switzerland will take you from Zermatt to an altitude of 3,089m (10,134ft) above sea level. During the ride to the summit, you will experience excellent vantage points for some 29 four-thousand-meter peaks including the mighty Matterhorn and the impressive glaciers of the Monte Rosa massif. Overnight in Zermatt. Day 8 Departure Rail transfer to airport or Swiss border and flight or rail back to the UK.
