Famous for its spectacular volcanic scenery, a visit to the Lagoa das Furnas (a crater lake) is a must! Here you try a traditional Cozido lunch, cooked underground by the geothermal properties of the earth. Whales feed in the rich waters surrounding the islands which provide an excellent opportunity to spend a day whale and dolphin watching. Terceira & Caves A short flight takes you over to the island of Terceira, which, with a more gentle terrain, contrasts with Sao Miguel. The rest of your week is based in picturesque Angra do Heroismo and from here you can visit the magnificent Algar do Carvao. These subterranean caves can be explored on foot and are a reminder of a violent volcanic past. To the north of the island visit Biscoitos meaning `biscuits'. Here natural pools have formed making an ideal place for an exhilarating swim.
