The Adventure Company has set up its own foundation to administer funds donated by you. A small donation of £1 per booking will be taken when booking a holiday and that money will be put to good use by one of our carefully selected projects. If you don't want to make the donation, just tell us when you call. Through the Foundation, we contribute to a number of small grass-roots initiatives that really make a difference such as building houses in Sri Lanka, a community centre in Nepal and equipping schools in Morocco and Ecuador. We also try to incorporate optional visits to the projects while you're on your adventure. Charity Partnerships Plan International UK We've worked in partnership with Plan for a number of years. Plan is a child-centred community development agency aiming to develop children's potential in 45 of the world's poorest communities. Plan sits down with children, their parents and the community to find practical ways to provide all the things we take for granted. Together they build schools, drill wells, train nurses and help families support themselves. Plan can do this because a million people across the world sponsor a child. The Adventure Company donates £5 per person for every passenger travelling with us to Peru. Visit: www.plan-uk.org or call: 020 7482 9777 Nepal Working with our local agent in Nepal, we have recently helped to fund the building of a new sports and community centre. The centre helps to unite underprivileged youngsters from the surrounding villages and provides various educational facilities. The centre has been built with four aims in mind: recreation, team-work, vocational skills and entrepreneurship. Located on the road which links Kathmandu and Pokhara, you'll have the opportunity to stop at the centre and see the new facilities. Tanzania We support the Arusha Children's Trust, a charity which runs projects in rural communities in areas of the Rift Valley. The projects aim to help children with their education, health services and environmental awareness. The Trust would be delighted to receive picture books for young children, games, construction toys, puzzles or sports equipment if you can carry them with you. Friends of Conservation Friends of Conservation works with local people to develop a balance between their needs and the wildlife with which they share their natural habitat and ecosystems. For every person who travels on selected Adventure Company trips to Namibia and Tanzania we make a donation to the Selous Rhino Project in Tanzania. This project was set up to secure the fragmented rhino populations within the game reserve and to help combat the devastating effects of poaching. Friends of Conservation has reported a sustainable population of 19 black rhino and at least two young; testimony to the continuing good work the donations help fund. Visit: www.foc-uk.com Egypt We have joined forces with the Sunshine International Project, Luxor, to assist in providing education and a home for children in Egypt. You will have the opportunity to visit the home during your stay in Luxor and meet the residents, where you'll be assured of a cheery welcome! Born Free Foundation Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife charity that works to encourage a greater respect for wild animals by preventing the suffering of animals in captivity and protecting wildlife in the wild. Born Free's Travellers' Alert campaign aims to expose wild animal suffering abroad and investigate reports provided by concerned and compassionate holidaymakers like YOU. Should you see animals in neglect, under poor conditions, in distress or suffering please get in touch with the Born Free Foundation (obviously let us know as well). You can do this quickly and easily by visiting: www.bornfree.org.uk/travellers.alert Matt in Tanzania Matthew Berna, Managing Director, visited recently and says: South Africa We support a project run by our local agent in South Africa in conjunction with the SOS children's home in Johannesburg. The project enables disadvantaged local children to experience the thrill of an African safari something which is normally totally out of reach. School Projects Free and easy access to education is taken for granted by many of us in the UK. However in the developing world many people struggle to afford access to what we would consider fundamental human rights. We support schools in India and Morocco, with financial contributions and by asking our clients to take much-needed resources out to them. "I was most impressed by the hard work and dedication of the small team of teachers, cooks and volunteers at the Arusha school. They are clearly devoted to their students' education and welfare. It was evident that they also appreciated the support offered by our clients and the foundation; we will do our best to improve the school's resources through this wonderful project." You can see more about their work at: www.acttz.org Climate Care We have teamed up with Climate Care to offer you the opportunity to offset the CO2 emissions from your flights through support for their projects, these include: South Africa: Installing 50,000 low energy lamps to lighten the load on electricity demand, people's electricity bills and the climate. India: In Ranthambore working to preserve the tigers' habitat by helping the local community produce renewable gas for cooking and by planting trees. You'll be asked on booking if you want to donate; with set amounts from £5 it couldn't be easier, and can go a long way to repairing your holiday's contribution to global warming.
