(Madras) you travel southwest across the plains of Tamil Nadu, visiting a collection of fascinating Hindu pilgrimage sites the city of Tanjore with its towering 61 metre temple dome, the 1000 pillared hall of Srirangam, the imposing Rock Fort Temple at Trichy and the vibrant bazaar and temple elephants of Madurai.

scenery and pace of life change as you reach the beautiful hill country of the Western Ghats, where verdant slopes host abundant animal and bird life. During your stay in Periyar National Park you'll enjoy guided walks to seek out wild elephant, visit tea and spice markets and learn how to cook Kerala-style.
Kerala Beaches and Backwaters Descending from the hills you reach the countless
waterways of the Malabar Backwaters, where you'll enjoy a gentle cruise amongst the numerous villages and rice paddies aboard a comfortable houseboat.
