If you fancy trying something different, then this exciting itinerary is for you. In addition to seeing the best of what Sri Lanka has to offer, you'll also spend three days getting hands on at a primate conservation camp. Joining the researchers, you track monkeys in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, observe their behaviour and learn all about valuable conservation work.

transfer to a nearby hotel. Day 3 Dambulla Journey inland to Dambulla which will be your base for exploring the `dry zone' over the next few days. Day 4 Sigiriya Rock Today climb the steep pinnacle of Lion Rock at Sigiriya to reach its imposing summit fortress for spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Day 5/6 Polonnaruwa Spend two days with Dr Wolfgang Dittus and his research team as you get `hands on' tracking monkeys in the ancient, ruined city of Polonnaruwa. Observe the behaviour of torque macaques and gray and purple-faced langurs and learn about the valuable conservation work that the team carry out.

you'll visit the Temple of the Tooth and the Dambulla cave temples. A physically undemanding yet busy trip with a mixture of wildlife, culture, activity and relaxation. before visiting a tea factory and take a scenic walk across Horton Plains. Day 11/12 Yala NP Visit the Elephant Transit Home in time for feeding and take a jeep safari into the heart of the Yala National Park. Two days are spent unwinding by the beautiful Indian Ocean in tropical Tangalle. Day 15/16 Transfer back up the coast and spend the night in Minuwangoda before catching your flight home.

The observation work you will carry out at the Primate Research Camp will be used to enable the team to develop their wildlife awareness and conservation programme within the local community in an effort to save the endangered purple-faced langur. In addition to this, The Adventure Company Foundation supports the Elephant Transit Home in Uda Walawe National Park with £5 for every person travelling to Sri Lanka.
